A Unique Way To Learn French
You don't just learn French in a classroom. You practice speaking in a real theater environment, guided by a qualified teacher.
This is a French immersion experience in Marseille delivered over a maximum of 3 half-day sessions of your choice.
This French immersion experience is delivered in small groups (minimum 3 participants - maximum 8). You can choose between 1,2 or 3 half-day sessions depending on your preference. Each session is independent and is confirmed once the minimum group size reached.
No acting required - only communication and confidence building. From level A2 (I can test you and place you at a level).
Your Teacher
My name is Marjorie
I am a French teacher with two Master's degrees* and I was born and raised in Marseille. I have been involved in theatre for over 20 years.
I created this method to help learners speak French naturally and confidently in real-life situations. Using your body on stage in a supportive and fun environment will help you progress quickly!
* Français Langue Etrangère et Information-communication/ journalisme.

The experience
We offer French as a Foreign Language courses directly on the stage of the Théâtre Marie-Jeanne, a renowned center of Expressionist theater in Marseille for over 25 years.
Learning French on stage, in the heart of Marseille, is also about discovering the energy and conviviality of a city
where the language is lived and shared.
In detail
What if learning French became a vibrant, theatrical, and local experience. Each 3-hour session is divided into two parts:

Reassuring linguistic foundations
1.5 hours – Structured lesson Grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension to acquire the basic language skills.
This initial learning phase will then be applied in role-playing scenarios on stage.
* Understanding useful vocabulary for communicating in a restaurant; asking for information; the conditional tense for ordering.
* Prepositions of place; verbs of movement; vocabulary related to public transportation.
* Local vocabulary and expressions; asking questions to get to know people. Interpersonal skills.
* Knowing how to raise the alarm; expressing pain; body language; expressing degrees of intensity.
The program mentioned above is an example. The course content will be adapted by the instructor, based on the identified needs and the group's level.

Learning by doing
1.5 hours – Practical application on stage to experience the language in context.
Learners engage in communicative situations and immediately use the language in scenes inspired by everyday life in Marseille :
* Ordering in a restaurant (bouillabaisse on the Old Port; a pizza from a local bakery; seafood on the Corniche…); ask questions.
* Asking for directions (getting to the cove of…; reaching the…; walking along the Corniche)
* meeting neighbors (incorporating Marseille expressions to build connections…)
* expressing an emergency (expressing pain face-to-face and over the phone).
The program mentioned above is an example. The course content will be adapted by the instructor, based on the identified needs and the group's level.

Theatre as a tool
This teaching approach combines French language learning with oral practice in an immersive and interactive way.
Theater thus becomes a pedagogical tool for practicing French, developing oral expression, and gaining confidence.
No prior theater experience is required. Theatrical techniques are naturally integrated into the lessons to create a concrete and unique learning experience.
The performances are realistic and faithfully reflect the situations you are likely to encounter during your stay.
The goal is to boost your self-confidence and help you feel more comfortable speaking in a friendly and stimulating environment.
Commedia dell'arte and expressionist masks are available to students. Marjorie, your French instructor, will explain the techniques and guide you through this discovery.
The Théâtre Marie-Jeanne is a unique venue: an expressionist theater, it has been a fixture in Marseille for 25 years.
In addition to its shows, TMJ offers workshops in clowning, cabaret, masked theatre, puppetry and dramatic arts.
